Your OpenAI key, or the free trial
Reading job pages, scoring fit and writing drafts use OpenAI's models. There are two ways to pay for them.
The free trial. Sign in with Google and you get 5 jobs, with every feature, at no cost: reading, scoring, a resume, a cover letter and interview preparation for each, and up to 10 chat messages per job. There is one trial per Google account. The trial uses the default models (gpt-5-mini to read and score, gpt-5 to write).
Your own OpenAI key. Paste it on Settings and choose Use my key. It is checked with OpenAI first, then held in the server's memory for your browser only.
- It is never saved: not to a database, a file or a log, and never sent back to your browser. Settings shows only its last four characters.
- Because it is only in memory, you will need to enter it again after 2 hours without use, after the site restarts, or in another browser. Settings shows the time it will be forgotten.
- Forget key removes it at once. Signing out forgets it too.
- With your own key you can choose the models and set a monthly spending limit (see Settings).
While you are on the trial, or have no key yet, a small card in the bottom-right corner says so, with how many trial jobs are left. × hides it until you next open the site; the same line stays at the bottom of the sidebar. Both go away once your own key is in use.
